    Diamond grinding and acid etching

Diamond grinding is mechanical preparation that develops a surface profile for the selected coating and helps remove unsuitable material. Acid etching is a different preparation process and is not a substitute for removing a failing old coating or addressing contamination. The surface must meet the proposed system requirements.

We discuss the full floor, including corners, edges and thresholds. A visibly clean center does not establish that the entire slab is ready. Preparation is about bonding to sound material, not simply changing the concrete color or polishing its appearance.

Cracks and spalls are different from joints

Stable cracks and chipped areas may be considered for compatible repair before coating. Changes in crack width, displaced concrete or continuing movement need separate assessment. A decorative coating is not structural repair and cannot stabilize a moving slab.

Joints intended to manage movement should keep that function. Ask which lines will remain visible and how each repair fits the system. The goal is to explain the scope honestly rather than promise that every mark will disappear.

    Old paint and coating removal

Old paint, sealers and coatings need evaluation for compatibility and condition. Failing or unsuitable material may need removal so the new system is not tied to a weak layer. Adhesive, oil and other contamination can add preparation needs.

Share anything known about previous finishes without guessing when the history is unclear. Photos help start that discussion, while an on-site assessment confirms what can be seen and the proposed removal scope.

    Moisture checks before coating

We offer moisture checks/testing as part of discussing slab suitability. Let us know about dampness, water entering near a door or an old finish that lifted. A dry-looking surface alone does not resolve every moisture question.

A coating does not repair active leaks or poor drainage. Those causes may need their own solution before a decorative finish is sensible. Product suitability and the preparation plan follow the concrete condition.

    Newer slabs and curing compounds

New concrete can still have curing compounds, construction dust or residue that affects adhesion. A newer home is not proof that the garage needs no preparation. We discuss the surface history and coating requirements before application.

Cure and return-to-use times depend on the system, temperature and humidity; we give you the timing for your floor. Plan parking and storage around that guidance rather than treating a dry-feeling topcoat as ready for every load.
